This method probably owes more to the practices of Wicca than any other way, though you do not have to be Wiccan to use it.
YOU WILL NEED:
•Besom
•Ritual tools (athame, etc)
•Candle to represent your working
•Altar candles to represent the Goddess and God
•Any of the ceremonial or consecration incense
•Heatproof dish for the incense
•Compass (to work out directions)
•Candle snuffer
METHOD:
✤ Cleanse the sacred space symbolically with the besom.
✤ Place the altar in the center of the circle facing north.
✤ Set up the altar as described above.
✤ Light the candles on the altar.
✤ Start with the candle representing the Goddess on the left, then the God on the right. In the middle, follow with the candle which represents your magical working.
Light the incense.
✤ Move towards the northern edge of the area you are enclosing.
✤ Hold your left hand out, palm down, at waist level. Point your fingers toward the edge of the circle you are creating. (You can, of course, use your athame if you have consecrated it.)
✤ See and feel the energy flowing out from your fingertips (or the athame), and slowly walk the circle, clockwise. Think of the energy that
your body is generating.
✤ Continue to move clockwise, gradually increasing your pace as you do so.
✤ Move faster until you feel the energy flowing within you.
✤ The energy will move with you as you release it.
✤ Sense your power creating a sphere of energy around the altar. When this is firmly established, call on the Elements which rule the four directions.
✤ Your circle is now consecrated and ready for you to use for whatever magical purpose you need. You will require the candle snuffer when you close your circle after your magical work.
